’This landscape of “mountains” and “valleys” speckled with glittering stars is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula. Captured in infrared light by NASA’s new James Webb Space Telescope, this image reveals for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth.’ Credit: NASA
Permit yourself time for your thoughts to wander as you enjoy the dreamy qualities of this painting. Linger within the cobalt blues and gentle pastel powder blue and lavender; bathe in the warmth of the ochre and golden hues and skitter about with joy across the rich orange and hot opera pink.

Stars are battling gas and dust in the Lagoon Nebula. Also known as M8, this nebula is visible even without binoculars towards the constellation of the Archer (Sagittarius) The energetic processes of star formation creates not only the colours but the chaos.
I love the way the energy flows in this piece and the colours bounce off of one another in a jostling, frenzy of creativity.

Trumpler 14 spans about forty light years and lies about 9,000 light years away on the edge of the famous Carina Nebula. A discerning eye can spot two unusual objects in this detailed 2006 image of Trumpler 14 by the Hubble Space Telescope. Look just left of centre to see a planetary system trying to form before being destroyed by the energetic winds of Trumpler 14's massive stars.

The small, arcing, graceful structure just above and left of center is LL Ori's cosmic bow shock, measuring about half a light-year across. The slower gas is flowing away from the Orion Nebula's hot central star cluster, the Trapezium, located off the upper left corner of the picture.

Start with the constellation of Orion. Beneath this is the Great Nebula of Orion and in this nebula is a bright star cluster known as the Trapezium. The Orion Nebula is one of the most active areas of star formation to be found in our area of the Galaxy. Look into the piece to see crimson, magenta and citrus yellow drifting across inky indigo and plumes of lilac.
